G for Gingerbread

Last week our Letter of the Week was 'Gg', so in our cooking session we decided to make Gingerbread Men. We practised lots of great skills - reading, counting, using our visuals to communicate, taking turns, and using our senses and so much more!

First we had to read the recipe.
Then Aiyden helped to cream the butter and sugar
Kereama added the flour
William added some ginger

Mixing time
Tyler had a turn at mixing too
William used the rolling pin to roll the dough out flat
We pushed the cutter down to make a man
Aiyden's turn to cut one out
Once they had cooked and cooled it was time to decorate!

Tyler told us that he LIKED the gingerbread men - great work

Kereama chose red icing for his man

Aiyden chose 'like' as well.

I wonder what we will make this week for the letter 'H'......

Rainy Lunchtime

Today it was raining so we had to stay inside at lunchtime. Sometimes we put on music or play with out special rainy day toys, but today Tyler & Kereama decided to read books instead.

Tyler made himself very comfortable on the cushions in our window seat.

Kereama enjoyed opening the flaps and telling me about what he saw.

Great job boys, what a fantastic rainy lunch activity.

Week 6 and 7

Again, the time has got away on me and I haven't posted for 10 days! On Monday we welcomed back a student, Aiyden, into our class, he has been away for the last few months - it's great to have you back with us Aiyden.

Here is a snapshot of some of the things the students of Room 11 have been up to recently:

We have been continuing our Senses topic - and this week was Taste week!

Kereama shows me where his tongue is!

Tyler was using visuals to tell us if he 'liked' or 'didn't like' the taste of the things we tried (such as peanut butter, tomato sauce, a marshmallow....)

Since we were also looking at the letter 'Ff' this week, we made some French Toast in cooking

William and Chris cracked the eggs

Tyler mixed them together with some milk

Kereama got the first taste - YUM!!!

William practiced his spreading

Aiyden enjoyed the jam the most...

We also based our sensory play session around the letter 'Ff' and enjoyed exploring Feathers, Frogs, Foot Spas and Foot massages. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon!

William uses tongs to move the feathers between containers
Aiyden has a bubbly foot spa with Lisa, and Kereama has his feet massaged and tickled by Chris

Tyler's frogs have disappeared under the bubbles!

Music therapy

Today we had our first music therapy session with Devin. He brought some instruments for us to play, sang some songs with his guitar, and taught us the actions to a cool African song. William loved the stop/go song on the drums and kereama enjoyed the stamping action in the African song. See you next Tuesday Devin!
